From Script to Screen

Top-scoring scripts are surfaced to production companies actively seeking new material. Your story won't get lost in a pile — it gets seen by the right people.

Bring Stories to Life

Winnow exists to close the gap between a great script and a greenlit project. We're building the bridge between the writers who imagine and the teams who produce.

Become a winner!

Winnow runs competitive submission seasons. Each season has a defined window, a submission fee, and a clear pipeline from initial review to final selection.

Here's how it works: during an open season, you pay a single submission fee and upload your script as a PDF. Our readers evaluate it against a detailed rubric covering structure, character, dialogue, and originality. Scripts that clear the threshold advance to the production-company shortlist.

All of the most helpful feedback available to you in one place. Every category scored, every note written by a reader who has read thousands of scripts and knows what works. The notes are actionable, not generic.

And of course, the scripts that make the shortlist get the best outcome of all — a real conversation with a production company that is already interested.

FAQs

What types of scripts does Winnow accept?

Winnow accepts feature-length screenplays and pilot scripts (TV drama, limited series, or comedy). Each submission season specifies the accepted genres and formats — check the current season's brief before submitting. Scripts must be in standard screenplay format (Courier 12pt, standard margins) and submitted as a PDF.

How long does it take to get coverage back?

Coverage is typically delivered within 2–4 weeks of the season's submission window closing. You'll receive an email notification when your coverage is ready. The turnaround can vary by season volume — each season page shows the expected delivery date.

What is included in the coverage report?

Your coverage report includes: a one-page synopsis, scored categories (premise, structure, character, dialogue, originality, and commercial viability), detailed notes for each category, an overall recommendation (Pass / Consider / Recommend), and a brief overall assessment. All feedback is written by a professional script reader.

How are scripts selected for the production shortlist?

Scripts that receive a "Recommend" rating from coverage advance to the production shortlist. From that pool, Winnow curates a selection based on the production companies' stated interests for that season. Being on the shortlist means at least one production company has been introduced to your script — there is no guarantee of option or production, but it is a genuine introduction.

Can I submit the same script to multiple seasons?

Yes — you can resubmit a revised draft to a future season. Each submission is treated independently. Many writers use their coverage from one season to improve their script and submit a stronger draft the next time. The submission fee applies per submission regardless of prior submissions.
